Manipur to Introduce GST Amendment Bill in Assembly Session.
The Manipur government has decided to introduce an amendment bill related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the upcoming assembly session, which is scheduled to commence on February 28. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, as announced by state Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan.
GST Amendment Bill and Budget-Related Matters
The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (6th Amendment) Bill, 2024, will be presented in the assembly session. Additionally, budget-related matters will be discussed, including the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and the revised estimates of the budget for 2023-24. The budget estimates for 2024-25 will also be laid before the House. The assembly session is expected to continue until March 5.
Implementation of Judicial Pay Commission Recommendations
The cabinet also approved the implementation of the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission for payment of allowances to the Manipur judicial service, effective from January 1, 2016. This decision aligns with the Supreme Court’s order on the matter.
Other Bills and Land Purchase
The council of ministers further decided to introduce the Manipur Labour Laws Exemption from Renewal of Registration and Licence by Establishment Manipur Bill, 2024, in the assembly. Additionally, the cabinet approved the direct purchase of 3.77 acres of land in Imphal East district for the establishment of an automated testing station.
The Manipur government’s decisions, including the introduction of the GST amendment bill, budget-related discussions, implementation of judicial pay commission recommendations, and other legislative measures, set the stage for the upcoming assembly session.
