Noida Chartered Accountant arrested in fake bank guarantees scam worth Rs 168 cr, operated network from Kuwait.

Chartered Accountant

The Bengaluru police arrested a Noida-based chartered accountant for allegedly duping 11 private companies by providing them with fake electronic bank guarantees worth Rs 168 crore, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as 45-year-old Ashish Roy, alias Ashish Saxena, was detained by immigration officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his return from Kuwait, reports PTI.

A lookout notice was issued against him by Bengaluru Police in February. The case came to light when an official from National E-Governance Services Limited filed a cheating complaint, revealing that the e-bank guarantees submitted by certain companies were counterfeit.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the accused used his professional networks to approach chartered accountants and financial advisers of these private companies under the pretence of providing them with e-bank guarantee certificates and received Rs five crore as a commission.

Nine out of the 11 companies involved are based in Bengaluru. The accused allegedly operated this entire network from Kuwait with an accomplice who has not been traced yet.

Police disclosed the seizure of two laptops, six mobile phones, and 10 chequebooks from various bank accounts in his possession.
